I have a Novell 3.12 Wan. one of the servers has been upgraded to 3.2. A tennant of my building is building a wireless internet business. They gave me a 512 mbps ramp for free. It comes to my office on a cat 5 RJ45. Can I simply plug this wire into one of my hubs and run IP and IPX over the same cat5 network of wires?

Your only slight problem with NW 3.x is the IP portion. Netware 3.x straight out of the box does not support TCP/IP. What we know of as TCP/IP was not available until Netware 5.x (I don't think 4.x had it - I honestly can not remember) On the 3.x servers themselves you have to run a suite of programs that is called "Netware TCP/IP". The URL below can lead you through installing Netware TCP/IP.
As for the Cat5 portion of your question. You can run the IPX/SPX and IP protocol over the Cat5, all @ one time. To better describe this we would have to get into the different protocol layers and their function. That's a book in itself. As for your question of " Can I simply plug this wire into one of my hubs". You would be better advised to have a Router/Switch type configuration between you and the Internet. But this can be a touchy subject sometimes. It is just the way that I would install it, especially if I was dealing with sensitive information.

Sounds like a great deal! As U. says, the physical connection will work fine, but as with any interent connection you have security issues. Check what the ISP has at the other end of the cat5 cable, they may already have a router/firewall set up for you, if not, you really should get one instead of running it straight into your lan.

Thanks for your replys. I will check with them. I've never really understood how firewalls work. Guess I'd better start learning eh?
