Dear All

I am going to install Netware 3.12 on my HP Pentium IV machine with 128 MB RAM and 20GB Harddisk. As I am new in netware i need to know the following things.

1. Should i format my harddisk with DOS6.22 and make a dos partition? or Windows98 bootable floppy would work fine ?

2. Does Netware 3.12 support 20GB Harddisk and 128 MB RAM ? If not, what needs to be done to support these both ?

3. What maximum size can I give to "sys" volume in netware 3.12 ?

4. What command will I have to apply for the Harddisk module? I mean "load isadisk" or "load ide "since my computer doesnt have any ISA slot.

5. What are most important patches which are needed to be loaded to rum this server successfully ?

6. What utility do i need to transfer usernames and their passwords from existing netware 3.12 to my new server ?

I would really be thankful for your helpful reply and guidance.

Don't know it all by heart; but here it goes;
Btw, have you looked at support.novell.com ?
All the documentation is online.

1. Partitioning the harddisk
- Remove all partitions by using fdisk or gdisk
- Use DOS 6 to create a dos partition of 200 to 300 mb
- format this small partition with dos6, don't use a Win98 bootdisk !!! The install will crash.

2. Memory and disk size
- the 128 mb memory shouln't be a problem, if the server doesn't see it all, you must use the 'register' command.
If 3.12 can't handle the entire harddisk, create multiple partitions.

3. If I'm correct, you can use the entire partition as SYS (at least in 3.11 this was the case).

4. The install program will detect the IDE automatically, if everything goes fine, and load the drivers at startup.

5. Version 3.12 should be stable as it is, don't know if there are any security issues.

6. Don't know :( Have you searched the internet for a utility that can copy bindery users etc?

3.12 had some Y2k issues. You'll need to install the last service pack after intall. It should still be available at Novell's site.

www.novellshareware.com has loads of utilities for all versions of Netware.

You might also check your backup program to see if it has the bindery backed up.

Have fun!
