Hi
i am currently running on a Netware 3.12 network, and currently have about 50PC working alrite on it.
i have just built 2 new PC's from scratch, installed win98se and got them running on the network. the only problem is.....
they will both not let you ping any other computer on the network, they let you log onto the network no bother at all, and let you see files on the server and everythin, but you cant ping any PC.
One of them doesnt really need to do it, but one of them is used as the Email collector and distributor and needs to be able to talk with the PC that we have for dialing out on the ISDN line.
i have tried installing Win98 and the novell client again, but no luck, also tried 2 different network cards and drivers but still no luck.
i am really stuck on this one, can anyone help?? Thanks in Advance
Graeme

I think that this is a protocol issue. NW 3.12 only talks IPX, but the standard ping in Win98 is a IP-only utility. Search for, and download an IPX ping utility for win98.

You don't have to go to any of that trouble of downloading.
Get to basics: is tcp/ip installed on the machine you want to use ping from?
Clearly NOT. So install Microsoft tcp/ip [network properties/protocols] and you will be able to ping

i have installed TCP/IP already and no luck come of it, we have tried everything that we can think of and still no luck, it also doesnt run on the internet, this is also a IP isuue isnt it?
All the settings to do with IP i have tried, and all the settings with the internet i have tried aswel and still no luck, im getting to the point of throwing the thing out the window soon! lol
Graeme

when youi say it can't ping what is the message? host not found/expired in transit what?
There is a bug in MS tcp/ip. There is a utility usually on the drive called wsupdate. Run it. It will fix the ip problem
