We are running a Novell Netware server with 524 Original cache buffers.
Somewhere there is a memory leak because in 74days of up time there is now only 700 buffers free (server beeping).
There are possible culprits and we will be testing them over the next day or two after rebooting and stopping each suspect program to see which one is causing the problem. I have a couple of general questions about how the memory is released?
If a client(4.9 SP2) connection to the server is closed, would the cache buffers used on the server by that connection be released?
For example, an application running on approx 90 client PC's uses a VBS FileSystemObject (fso) to scan a directory on the server for a list of filenames, it may occasionally delete a file from the directory. Does anybody know if this would this use cache buffers on the server?
I'm new to Netware, and this post might appear vague and nonsensical, sorry
Thanks for any help,
Xscript

Memory leaks can happen. There are some documents on this issue and how to reduce or sole the problem.
The first article is about Memory Fragmentation Issue with NetWare 6.0/6.5 and you can read about it at: http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/search/searchtid.cgi?/10091980.htm
Another article about memory problems is at: http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/netware/qna/memory.html
