my nw 5.1 writes me following error message:

Unable to obtain a connection license unit. Contact your network administrator to verify that licensing services are functioning properly and that license units are available. Error # C0001002

There are server and user licenses installed on the server but I don't know how to solve that problem. Please help

Hi
No need to worry :)
Start nwadmin32 (sys:\public\win32)
Check if your lic are assigned to a server objekt, if not, assign.
If this doesn't work, delete your lic and reinstall them.

Here is another possibility.

SYMPTOM
-------
Policy Manager Error: C0001002 (No license has been installed at or above the server's context).

Error: "5.00-015: Unable to obtain a connection license unit. Error #c0001002"

CAUSE
-----
Users from different partitions are crossing over and using the license. Any server can respond for a request for licenses. Some NW5 boxes often respond faster than others (especially if there is a process running on another server). When the server that responds has a limited number of licenses, and the user needs a specific license, then the server reports a policy manager error.

FIX
---

Assign users to the NW5 licenses on servers that need to have licenses for specific purposes (i.e.- backups), so that others cannot come in and take them.

Unload and reload NLSLSP, and if necessary recreate the licenses objects.

Patching to SP 5 should resolve the problem.
Assigning the server to the license in NWadmin should also resolve the problem, until the server is rebooted, then the process starts over again.
