Novell/Windows password sync

Hi Folks,
Users are primarily being authenticated on our netware 5 file server. They receive a novell drive mapping to a windows 2000 server for a database app. I've set generic passwords on the windows 2000 server and set it to prompt the users to change it upon login. The problem is they dont get prompted to change the password on the Windows 2000 server that isnt running active directory and their novell password and windows server password remain out of sync. I can ask each user for their novell password and change it myself, on the win 2k server but that would be a painstaking process. Does anyone know if theres a way to do this?

not that i know of sorry. they won't be prompted to properly log into the 2k server so they won't get the oportunity to change passwords. consider it like simply trying to access shared resouces on a file server -all you need is a username and password that has rights to the resource, regardless of whether the password needs to be changed or not, as you aren't logging into the server properly.

We have a similar set up but intsead of it being an application on 2K server, its on NT 4.0. It would be ideal if when the users change there Novelle passord that this automatically updates there NT password because we believe this is causing many frequent password lockouts on the NT domain. Someone said to me it could be due to the initial novelle login being cached...any ieas??

if they're not actually logging into the nt or 2k server to begin with then they cannot change the passwords. therefore they can't automatically synch a novell changed password with the nt one. consider it like setting up a password on a peer to peer resource. the password can't be chagned by the user logging in. this is exactly the same as what is happening here.

So would it be correct for me to think that the frequent account lock outs are occuring because when the users get asked to change there Novell password they automatically presume they have changed there NT password too and therefore there NT lockouts are simply due to incorrect passwords being tried eg 3 times.
