I have installed Novell client 4.8 on several fresh installations of win 2000, however I get many networking problems as a result.
One of the main problems is that on occasion the network card "disappears", thus reducing networking functionality to zero.
Another problem is that the Novell networking is very tempremental. I can boot up in the morning with no network problem, then the network day I will not be able to see the tree. The only fix for this is to reinstall the Novell client.
Yet another problem caused by the Novell client which I find particularly amusing is a winlogon.exe error on bootup. This error promptly reboots the system as soon as you have time to read it, and the cycle begins again.
I have scanned the internet and discovered that the main cause is the GINA.DLL file. Apparently, both Windows and Novell use their own versions of this DLL (along with a few other packages, eg pcanywhere), which appears to cause a conflict between applications.
I have tried various solutions including patches from Novell for example, however they rarely work and a great deal of time is wasted trying to track down where the problem lies.
Does anyone know a reliable Novell client or a service pack which will remedy these problems?
