I have netware installed on the laptop i owned which was given to me by my school.

i need netware at certain times because it is needed to log onto my schools network. but when i get home i hate it. it slows down the computer. it doubles startup time and does a myriad of other evil things to my otherwise happy computer.

how can i disable it so that it doesn't ruin my computing life when im at home!

i don't know the exact version.. its nt.. and dated at 2002

tussoldier, I'm in the same situation that you are regaurding a loaned laptop from school and I also agree that Novell is evil.
:)

Any-who, I have the solution for you.

You must first tell Windows to load the Windows Login Prompt instead of the Novell prompt, you do this via the Windows Registry-

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Key: GinaDLL
Value (current): nwgina.dll
Vale (change to): msgina.dll

Now you must tell Novell NOT to execute any login commands when you enter Windows-

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Novell\Network Provider\Initial Login

Key: Login When NWGina Not Loaded
Value (current): yes
Value (change to): no

That should do it (it does for me at least)!

"workstation only" still loads about 20 million netware drivers and services.

thank you

(oh for hte record i OWN this laptop... which makes it even more annoying)

as for what you said.... that will stop netware loading, but what about when i want it to load at school.... can i make a "novell" and a "home" user once im done with that?

and what about zen works and such... all the other weird programs

Oh thank god, if this works it will stop me from dual booting on a 35 gig hdd (horrible idea)

sorry to be an annoying little bugger, but my netware registry (the last one)

there is no "initial login" folder. inside network provider is

Capture flags
connections
menu items
netware utilitys
property pages
send message

sorry i seem to be bumping this but im doing it as it comes along!

You can still login to Novell by clicking on the icon in the 'Novell (Common)' program group (or if you moved it, C:\Windows\System32\loginw32.exe). This will bring up the login prompt and you can login normaly from there.

All the above code does is stop Novell from being the default Windows login prompt (reverting it back to the Windows dedault one) and it does stop some services from initially loading.
there is no "initial login" folder. inside network provider is
You have to create the folder then and key.
