Hello,
I am a field service technician and I was at a client site where I was replacing a PC and loading everything from scratch. When it came time to load Novell Client 4.8, (also tried the latest one - 4.9) it would find the tree, prefered tree, and server, and would allow a log on, but it would error out on mapping the drives.
The funny thing is, it worked the very first time I logged on, but would not work after that.
Kept getting failure to map drive errors.
I uninstalled and re-installed several times with no luck.
Any ideas?
Thank you very much,
raincheck

First of all check to see if you are working with the correct protocol (IP or IPX).
Also, from NW5 and on you should fill the correct DA, pointing to the SLP service in the Service Location tab on the Novell Client properties page.
If everything is correct you should contact the users system administrator to find out if everything in the users properties O.K. (e.g. the user have a valid home directory, the user belongs to the groups which gives the correct mapping etc.).
Good luck.

If you can successfully map drives from the red N in system tray ( right click on it for menu ) then client install was at fault.
I have had this problem a few times and this was always the reason. I know you reinstalled client but did you remove it, then restart PC before the reinstall ? Uninstall it only within properties of Local Area connection..

Look at the Licence container to see if the server is issuing licence. This behavior can occour if the Licence file is a different version then the server.

If the server is not issuing licences then you will need to obtain the correct licece version for the Neware version you are running.
