I have a w2k pro unit with novell client 4.81 installed, worked fine until I ran Windows sysprep utility on it to prepare it for imaging.
Now client box does not appear when machine is booted. I can manually right click N and choose Novell logon and it works fine but why isnt it launching automatically???

James, uninstall the client and reinstall. I've had problem with 4.81 on both 2000 and NT, always resolved when I uninstalled and reinstalled the client. Make sure you reboot with every change, even if it doesn't prompt you.

try to set the autologon
you need to go into the registry
go to Hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\network\real mode net
there you make a new key
named autologon and you set 00 01
now the client should appear after reboot
please inform me if it works

Simple: Sysprep replaces the Novell Gins with Microsoft Gina. Gina.dll is what controls the login screen. All you need to do is to midify a registry key to get back you Novell Login Screen:
key: HKLM\Software\Micrsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Winlogon
Value: MSgina.dll

Replace the MsGina.dll with either the NWGina.dll or the ngina.dll, depending on what client version you have installed. I would suggest you do a search on your HD frist to figure out which of the Novell Gina.dll is present on your PC.

Hope this helps
