I complete the begining of install and when it begins to load the GUI (white netware background, the installation wizard it stops. The mouse and all functions but nothing appears but background. I switch over to the system console it then has these messages:
Symantec JIT
java: Page fault occurred while executing class com.novell.application.install.setup--farther down it says:
Short term memory allocator is out of memory.
1 attempts to get more memory failed.
java: class com.novell.application.install.setup exited with status -5.
If you know what this may be caused from please respond. Im figuring its a problem with my memory...but i have added and used different sticks of RAM and the same occurs.Any help would be appreciated!

symantec? Are you loading antivirus during install? I believe the memory being talked about is not physical memory, though you should have 64-128meg available for install, but memory allocation inside of novell's install. Make sure your boot disk is clean and not loading any programs in config.sys and autoexec.bat

This is a problem that the early release of NetWare 5.1 had. Unfortunately the error message you receive is cryptic and doesn't even tell you the real problem which is with the implementation of Java and the Intel architecture. There are two ways around this: refer to Novell TID 100064269 for the first way. The other is to get a copy of an updated release of version 5.1 that came out AFTER the original release. The problem you describe also happens with Pentium 4-based computers. If you happen to know any NetWare instructors that have the CNI or NAI certification, they should be able to fix you up quick. If you need the files listed in the TID, email me or get them yourself from Novell.
