novell 4.2 SB and Stac Replica

Stac Corporation has been merged into another company and they have chosen to remove Stac Replica from the market. There is another backup product that is very similar to Stac Replica and almost as good in most respects and even better in some. It is produced by Columbia Data Products which is based in Florida. Their URL is http://www.cdp.com. I have switched all my former Stac servers to this new software and I am very pleased with the result. I should warn you though, that the CDP product, which is called SnapBack Live, is not quite as easy to install as Stac Replica and does not perform compression on Netware volumes quite as well as Stac Replica. They do provide a utility called WASH.exe which will enable compression on the Netware volumes. It must be run on each volume you intend to back up, particularly if the volume size exceeds the native mode of the tape you are using. Another caveat is that it does not work with all DAT drives. Be sure to determine compatibility between the tape drive you choose and SnapBack Live.
