I am simply trying to install 4.11 onto a new faster server with more drive space. I am not trained in Novell and I am particually confused with transferring Directory Services. I have already installed the new server into the existing tree. I am now to the point where I want to copy over the user files from server one to server two and then remove server one from service and install its licenses on server 2. I tried this and everything worked except when I would try to log into the new server from different clients, I could not see the directories I copied over, or if I signed on as admin, I could see the directories but couldn't access the files. The other issue is that I can no longer print either. All of the printers were set up through hp jetdirect. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dude. Why dont you just download the migration wizard from Novell's website. It's a cool utility that really works. The problem you're having is the trustee assignments aren't being copied over. You can download the wizard from...

http://download.novell.com/sdMain.jsp

Look for "NetWare Migration Wizard 6, English".

Hope this helps.

Hey thanks for the info, it sounded like the perfect solution and I was really excited about getting the problem solved until I read the following line in their details about the utility:

"Valid destination servers can be running NetWare 5.0, 5.1, and 6. Migration Wizard does not migrate to NetWare 4 destination servers."

Back to square 1 I guess...I had also made the mistake of installing the new server into the same tree as the old server so I would have had to start all over anyway. Still open for any suggestions you may have. Thanks.

Connect new and old HD in new server, start server from old HD,install necensary driver then mirroring (look in install program, from system console type "load install") to the new HD ,it can copy all netware partitions. if you have a DOS boot partition, then down the server and copy all the server boot path from old to new.Move the old HD and restart. Adjust the HD and netcard drivers in new server, move unmirrored disk, and the server will be fine.
I just do it.

Hope this helps.

Go to Novell support site and research DSMAINT.NLM.

I do not have the specific link for you, but DSMAINT.NLM has worked for me in what sounds like the same scenario.

FORGET all of the above tips.. go to http://www.portlocksoftware.com/Default.htm I just used it to transfer our 4.11 from the old server to a new one. THERE IS NO EASIER WAY. Migrate will not work with 4.11 as you have already found out. Portlock Software actually has their logo on the Novell 6.0 demo cd.. check it out. EASY to use.
