Isn't there any option in the client preferences for bindery login?

hi Paulsep,
There is no option for bindery login. The readme file shows the client is for novell 5.1 6 and 6.5.

Ok, I haven't used the Novell Client for Vista, but let's see, whether we can figure out the problem.

If you select the properties of the novell client, you should get a window named "Novell Client Configuration".
Click at the "Location Profiles" tab.
A "default" location profile should be listet there.
Click at the "Properties" button.
Another window is shown with Service is configured for "Login Service" and Service Instance is configured as "Default".
So click at properties.
Now you will get a window with all the login options you can use. One of the tabs should be "Bindery".
Click on it, you'll see, it's disabled by default.
Enable it and make your configurations.
Click ok an all the opened windows.

Ah, by the way, IPX protocol must be installed at the Vista client machine, because Netware 3.2 need it for login.

Something additional.
You can also login to a netware 5.1.6 server by bindery login.

hi Paulsep,
Still couldn't get vista to link to novell 3.2
I have managed to install ipx protocol, however there is no choice for bindery login.

the login available are NDS and novell server. Nothing is available when novell server is clicked. Look like I may have to abandon either vista or novell 3.2

Isn't it possible to install the novell client for WinXP on Vista to manage that?
In the Novell Client 4.91 for Windows XP, there is a bindery login.

I have also tried to install Novell Client 4.91 for window xp, but it just couldn't start the novell login window. It prompts that the version is not for the os. Really hopes there is a work around for this vista, Vista looks great. Thanks alot Paulsep, wonders whether 3.2 really reaches the end of the road.

Hmm, I'm just not really a friend of Vista.
To coloured, needs much more system resources than XP.
But the advantage of Vista is, the user can (must) run with user rights and not as administrator.

All the Netware Versions will reach the end, because Novell switched to Linux and reprogrammed nearly all services for Linux environment.
The only Netware Version actually supported by Novell is Netware 6.5.

Thanks alot. Don't really know the advantage of vista as yet,but seems like alot of usage and connection do not require technical knowledge except for connection with aging software.

My firm use Novell 3.12 from 1996 upgraded to 3.2 in 2000. Sure it has aged, but it uses little resource running transparently if nobody meddles with it. I shut the server only once a year when the firm closes for holiday or sometimes for electrical shutdown. I believe can't do that for window server. It meets our need, and a pity that Novell stops supporting these old server ware, well economically not viable.

But the old novell at least brings out alot of nice people around the world like you.

I will probably set a server using either peer to peer or wireless access via router. Security may be compromise. Alternatively may look into NAS instead.

Thanks alot. Will continue to lookup and participate in this forum.
