novell 3.12 problem with mounting

OS: Novell
CPU/Ram: Intel Pentium 4 256 DDRAM

i'm using novel 3.12 server
with specification Intel pentium IV 2 GB with 256 DDRAM, 40 GB SCSI Harddisk

the system using 2 partition, SYS and VOL1

the problem is VOL1 can not mounting with error message saying insufficient memory for directory table
when I dismount the SYS then the VOL1 can be mounted

when i type the lconfig.sys, it produce machine symbol, not usual command

can anyone help me, pls
need your help asap

is it nw 3.12 or 3.2 ?
which patches are applied ?
are there any "register memory" settings in startup.ncf ?
do you see 256mb if you type memory at the console ?
