Unfortunately, I'm a bit of a newbie at networking. I've peer-to-peer networked my four Windows98 workstations but I've just acquired a company running three DOS based workstations from a Novell 3.12 server. I downloaded NWClient 3.3 to attempt to connect my Win98 comps to the Netware network but I'm having trouble configuring the Client software.

When I start the Win98 comps I get a couple of messages:
"Cannot locate server domain/IP."
"Novell SMS TSA: Registration Failed."

I think the IP address of the server is 127.0.0.1 and tried entering that into the Gateway tab of my TCP/IP protocol, without any success.
I've also attempted to set advanced options to force a "bindery connection", also without success.

1. Do I need to add any patches or scripts to the server?
2. Do I need to add any scripts to the Win98 comps?
3. Do I need to read "Networking for Dummies"?
4. Am I hopeless and should hire a Network Administrator?

Any help would be appreciated, even if you can point me to any literature or websites.

Hi,
There is a lot of work for you.

1. Go to the Serverconsole and press [ALT+ESC] until you are at the Prompt

2. Type LOAD INSTALL

3. Choose the MenuItem SYSTEMOPTIONS / NCF OPTIONS

4. in the Submenu choose EDIT AUTOEXEC.NCF

5. LOOK for the following lines
- LOAD TCPIP
- BIND IP TO ????????? ADDRESS=???.???.???.??? MASK=???.???.???.???

6. if you can't find them is no TCP/IP installed on your server, else you can see servers IP-Address.

7. press ESC and DO NOT save changes !

8. if TCP(IP is'nt configured and you need this, then hire a NetWare Profi. NW3.12 needs some Supportpacks and some know how to run TCI/IP.

9. Remove your Gateway entree on the win98 Workstations ! 127.0.0.1 is the Loopback Port of every Host itself.

10. Reinstall Client32
- Choose the userdefined Setup
- Choose the Protocol IPX
- Choose 'Connect to Bindery Server'
- Deselect all optionan Components

11. At Question (Reboot Windows) choose NO

12. Go to Win98 Controlpanel/Network

13. Make sure that the 'primary Network?DontKnowTheEnglishWord?' is set to Novell NetWare Client.

14. Choose TAB 'Novell NetWare Client'

15. Choose TAB 'Client'

16. Set the Servername and the first Letter for NetWorkdrives

17. Restart Windows

You should now can login to the Server without any errors.

If you have problems you can send an Email to essnet@gmx.de. I will support you.

Bye. Jensen
