Hi,

I have an old Novel 3.12 in an old computer, of course both working without any issue, but I would like to change the hardware unit(I mean new pc).
My question is - can I simply duplicate the novell (hard disk copy by using a hard disk copy utility) hard disk to my new pc harddisk - will that work?
pls advise
Rgds

No, except you're using exactly the same model of harddisk.
Thats because Novell 3.12 stores information of the physical parameters of the harddisk like heads, tracks and sectors.
If these paramaters differ, the Netware Volumes will not be mounted.
I tried this by myself with Ghost for Netware, but you'll get the same problem with Drive Image.

I don't know whether there's another drive image tool that can manage this.

hi
I remember when I changed my hard disk couple of years ago from 9 gb to 75 gb, I copied all the files into new hard disk. Changed the setting for ram as I increased the ram size. Add command for long file name, and run the server, it seems that is enough to get the server to work. But my novell is updated 3.2. However frankly I dread to think of upgrading the novell server hardware again. The 3.2 did not give any problem from year 2000 until now. Though this novell 3.2 is transparent and did not give any problem for so many years, each time I need to make changes, I need to refresh and get back to reference manual. Wonder whether it is worth to keep, as it seems NAS could serve the function. Any comment?

it is a rare chance that u need to udgrade a 3.12 as it is even ready to run on a 386 machine with 16 mb..

if u want to upgrade to a higher capacity harddisk drive there are so many technical difficulties ..u have to stop using ur ISADISK or IDE driver and have to use th eupdated IDEATA driver for it , first of all run all the patches for novell till date on the first server ....connect the second harddisk to the machine ...mirror the harddisk ..manually copy the dos partition file sto the primary dos partion ...move the new Hdd to new machine ..try if it work ....create additional volumes or make volume segments ......and so ........on

let the mind be in charge than machines .
