How long do you have the time set to check for New Mail? I'm @ GW ver. 5.5EP right now, but the Notify shoulod still work basically the same. Right click on the Notify icon and select Options. Check that these are the settings that you want. I think right out of the box, Notify defaults to 5min. to check for new mail. You are going to find out that Notify is not very stable,even Novell will tell you this. If I wanted new mail notification in GW 6.x I would just as soon use the Marquee program.
