Hi,
I have a Novell 4.1 file and print server. It was giving me the following message:
"User ******* on station 19 cleared by connection watchdog. Connection cleared due to communication or station failure"
This message kept popping on my server console screen every 60 seconds.
I went to the Novell website and there it said I could use CLEAR WORKSTATION # and that I could do it by going through LOAD MONITOR on the system console.
When I did a LOAD MONITOR at the server prompt it did not take me to the monitor screen, instead it still kept popping the message on the screen. The server is up and running fine. I shut down the workstation that I suspected of causing the problem and the message stopped popping up.
But now I don't see the server prompt. Wondering if there is a way I can get the server prompt back. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Glenn

It look likes a NDS problem.
try load dsrepair
do a unattended full repairtip: if want to restart your server and you got no prompt (to type down)
press Shift-Shift-ALT-ESC on the same time
you are in the debug screen now.
press Q
press Y to go to DOS
this is better than power down the system

You have two problems:
1. You are probably running NLICLEAR.nlm. Unload this by typing: unload nliclear. This stupid utility from Novell kills connections (nli=not logged in) that are supposed to be inactive, but it will kill active connections, too. Get rid of it if present.
2. Once you have lost the server console, you should be working on restarting the server. The best way to do this is to have only one station logged into the server, then run f:\public\fconsole.exe and choose the shutdown option. This is the only way to initiate a graceful shutdown, ensuring you won't have to run vrepair.
3. Once the server is running again, use INSTALL to edit the autoexec.ncf and eliminate the NLIclear.nlm. Better yet, delete it if present.
