Comment:

I have three computers connected to a Linksys router.
Computer A: Desktop/XP Home
Computer B: Desktop/XP Pro
Computer C: Laptop/XP Pro also running
Novell Client 4.38
Computer A and B are working fine as far as networking and use of the internet. I can look in the network places/workgroup members and see computer C but when I click on it, its says I don't have permission contact administrator about access permissions. On computer C I don't even have the option of looking at workgroup members. But when I tried to find the printer attached to A, none of the computers are showing up on C. I have compared the properties of the connections on B and C to see if they are the same and they are. I am guessing that when Novell was installed it changed something to not let me be able to network with Micrsoft networks. Can anyone help me? I am a begginer Networker but I am computer literate. Thank you so much.

Make sure that the Microsoft Client is still installed. Also set it to the default client. Then make sure that file and printer sharing is installed. Good Luck!!

Try your network connection, properties, TCP/IP, WINS (?) NETBIOS OVER TCP/IP ON
In my case, this connected the PC on the network and was made vissible ans accessible to other computers.
Good luck.

I assume you are running TCP/IP?

Add the following entries to the host file in each computer
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\host

name_of_computerA 192.168.0.2
name_of_computerB 192.168.0.3
name_of_computerC 192.168.0.4

Replace the IP number with actual IP number of your workstations.

If your network is trying to use netbios names then add the same information to the
LMHost file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\lmhosts

Your systems will most probably have a lmhosts.sam file, use this as a start, but call it lmhosts and add the netbios name and IP address of each computer.

Cheers
Mike
