Comment: hello folks ok quick question here my friend has a laptop and has plugged the phone cable from the back of the works computer (which has novell and group wise) into his laptop so he can access the internet using the works network connection.when he plugs it in the network notification icon flashes "network connected at 100mbps" and then "network connection has been unplugged" i must state that he does not have netware or groupwise on his laptop.basically he just wants to surf the net at work by pluging the phone jack into his laptop then surfing away whats the solution?? jackspratt

Reply: (edit)If it is an XP box then you can install Novell client 4.9 SP1. When you do this you will get the option of marking the "workstation only" box and from that time you will login to the XP only. If you want to login to the Netware then you can do that from inside windows by right clicking the red N and choosing "NetWare login" or by loging out of windows, unchachking the "Workstation only" chackbox and then login into NetWare at work.

Reply: (edit)Jacksprat... The notebook must conform to the same network policies as the "works" workstation. Depending on how the network is set up and Internet is delivered on that network, you may need to authenticate using the Novell client, you may need to authenticate to an internet proxy or you may need other specific credentials. In short you need to consult your network administrator, firstly to check that what you are doing is consistent with the acceptable use policy for the network, and secondly to obtain the necessary settings and environment if it is.
