Last week....I had experienced printing troubles on one of the queue based printers. My queues reside on the Sys volume. I deleted some of the files from Sys/public directory which I had uploaded, to free up some space. Something came to mind and I did vrepair followed by Unattended Dsrepair. Restarted the machine and voila! "server abend". Fortunately that was Friday and I cleaned my sweat for I had full two non-working days in hand. Mount all..mount sys...nothing worked. I was stuck at (:) colon prompt. Netware support asked me to replace all the NICI *.xml files on c:\nwserver directory with those from c:\nwserver\backsp4 directory. I did and the server started working. We have local support agreement with Novell guys. I discussed with them the problem of few "loader cannot find public symbol" error messages still appearing on the server and they advised me to apply NWSP5. I had SP4 already installed on my server. I installed SP5 and restarted the machine, never to reach the console prompt again. Thousands of more Public symbols and Two days of support correpondence yielded no results. Fortunately, I had a cloned image of my Server HDD but that was two months old, nevertheless, it saved my day. My question:: My current servers are 4.11 upgraded to 5.1. My Network connection licences are the same. They say "Netware 5.1 Upgrade license." Can I re-build a new Netware 5.1 server from the CD and apply my 5.1 connection licences straight away without having to first build up from old 4.11. If yes! How do I transfer my tree structure replete with usernames and passwords onto the new server? Please advise....

How many servers are in the network? If more than one, which one holds the Master replica? V-Peace-V

Hi Under...There are two servers on this tree...the one that crashed was the Master the other was the R/W. I had to delete the objects on the R/W server and recreate them to synchronise my Master Replica on the cloned HDD of the Master. How do I transfer the 5.1 NDS structure, from my now functioning servers to the new ones that I wish to install from the scratch? The easiest approach according to you...advise! Rgds

I have use the upgrade license to install NW5.1 server, its my opinion that the word upgrade is only for cost purpose. Two questions come to mind. 1. Did you have a backup, if yes then procede as a disaster recovery senario. Install a vanilla 5.0 server with nothing but default products, install backup software and restore NDS and then the volumes. 2. Did you explore saving the server reference to a PC object in NDS, promote the RW replica to master and take out the effected server and reinstall in the tree and then get the references back.

Here are my suggetions Magnet: 1. Get the Network stable by getting the Master replica on to another Server. 2. Try and recover the information from the crashed Server on to the Server that will hold the new Master. 3. Removing all reference to the crashed Server from NDS. 4. Fixing and Installing the crashed Server back into the Network. As Dunce made reference to, find your backup that you are going to use to get back as close as you can before the crash occured. Look @ the two URL's I listed below and see if they pertain to your situation. I am to lazy to type every step that I THINK might be the problem. Not knowing your exact delima makes it hard for outside help. It is hard enough to recover a Server when you a right in front of it. All I can do is give you some operations to perform based upon the information you have provided. Remember to look @ the sites I gave in the order I listed them.
