Hello,

I have just upgraded my production server to NW5.1 in the hope that it would solve a problem that I have been experiencing. Sadly, it did not.

Since relocating to a new building whenever the server is downed and restarted the majority of the printers do NOT reconnect. The only difference on the hardware side of things, is that we are using Cisco Catalyst 3500 series XL switches. I have to restart the server a number of times until all printers reconnect, and then I dread the next time I have to down the server.

Last night I upgraded to NW5.1 and Spack 1 in the vaing hope that this might alleviate the problem. Alas, it did not. I have rem'd out everything in the autoexec.ncf added by the upgrade to 5.1 but still the problem persists.

The second, and I do not believe related problem, is that when I upgraded to NW5.1 last night I installed NDPS. My intention was to migrate all printers to NDPS printing over the next few weeks. As soon as the server came up, as well as the problem with printers NOT reconnecting, it caused a number of the printers (HP with internal JetDirect cards) to report MIO errors. Some of which reported "Error - 80 Service 0009" these were all HP's.

The current state of play is that I have rem'd out all NDPS modules from the autoexec.ncf, and after restarting the server (while praying very hard) I lucked out and on one of the restarts all printers reconnected.

Any help with either or both of the above would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Patrick

this happend to me with 3.12 and 4.11 whenever I downed the server- I had to go around and power the printers off/on to get them going- I thought that's just the way it worked?

That's what I thought as well, when I used to work with netware 3.2, Every time I rebooted the server, I went from Printer to Printer and recycled them.

We just upgraded to Novell 5 and we were told not to install NDPS because when the server comes up, none of the printers would work. I don't have a reason why, they (consultants) said they have had this problem

FYI
We've had exactly the same problem after upgrading NW5.1 to SP2a. Nothing would get the printers working except upgrading the Jetdirect Firmware.
Jetdirect model J2552B
Ugraded from Firmware A.05.xx to A.08.32 using the Firmware download software from www.hp.com.
After restarting the printers they were fine.
