Comment:

I have a 30 GB hard drive.

I want to install Netware 5 server and play with it. At the same time I would like to have Windows 98 SE on the same hard drive.

What partitions do I need, in which order do I install both of these operating systems and what should the partition sizes be?

Is there an easy way to do it with Partition Magic 5.01 or System Commander 2000?

I also have read that it's better to have DOS 6.22 installed first of all, in case that files get corrupted I would have DOS to rely on.

Let's see who can give me the best answer. I have not yet found a complete answer to my question.

Thanks people!

It's very simple to do.
1. Install Windows 98 SE
2. Create a unpartionized Range on your Harddrive (with PQM)
3. Boot your Computer with the Win98 Bootdisk
4. Insert the NetWare CD and install NetWare 5. via install.bat
6. if install ask, let the Bootpartition so it is
7. Create the NetWare Partition onto the unused Harddisk Partition
8. dont let NetWare modify your autoexec.bat
8. follow the NW5 Instalation to end

- Now you can boot Win98 like before
- If you want to boot NetWare press F8 at PC start and take choice 'Safemode - only Commandline', then type CD \NWSERVER and start the server.exe

Thats all.

Onenote though... If you're already running a netware server, don't run the same server (with the same license) on your PC while being on the network. NW checks to see if there are servers running the same license.

If you don't want to play with partition majic, just make sure you have some unpartitioned disk space. If you don't just backup your HD with ghost using a dos boot client disk saving the backup file to a network HD. Then restore while resizing the hd to be a little smaller.

After you have the unparition space available for netware 5, I would boot with dos 6.22 (win98se dos if the HD is fat32), loading your dos cdrom drivers, then run install on the netware5 cd. After your install, just make a simple dos boot disk that had C:\NWSERVER\SERVER.exe in the autoexec.bat

Have fun, I have this kind of configuration that I use daily to boot our backup server nightly from my workstation using Win98FE, Netware 4.1 (w/i arcserve) and dos 6.22 boot disk.
