I am in the process of upgrading Netware 4.11 to Novell SB 6 and moving everything from and older computer to a newer one. I used ServerMagic to copy the contents of the old SCSI HD to a newer HD. Then I took the new HD and installed it in a new computer along with a newer Adaptec 29160 controller card. Problem is, I can't seem to get the old Novell to accept the new drivers for the new adaptec card. This is necessary so Novell will load and I can proceed with the Novell upgrade to v6. Any and all help would be appreciated. Plus I'm under the gun on this.... ofcourse. ;-)

A couple of questions come up about what error messages you get, was the old adapter an adaptec also, etc.

BUT, instead of the method you are using, I would recommend using the Novell migration wizard to upgrade to the new hardware and new OS across the wire. I recently did this with my 4.2 to 6.0, and it worked beautifully. That way all you need to do is get the new drive working on the new box with a minimal NW6 install, and not have to fight with 29160 drivers for 4.11.

But, if you really like you method, need some more info about what and how it's not working.

mwgroth - issues her are as follows nw4.11 disk drivers are not compatable the nw6 - they novell re-did the way the drivers function and the coding was changed.
to move to the new server you should use the upgrade method which is their "deployment manager" look for a file on the root of the cd rom called accupgrd.exe insert this cd into a w32 ws and use that to move the files etc to the new server. - this process you describe would work in a nw4.x to 5.0 upgrate but not to nw6.

Our upgrade to 6 was a complete disaster... we locked DS on two servers, pooched them both... We used Novell's Migration utility. Novell also has a Server Consolation utility which we didn't try.

In one case taking the old server off of DS and adding the new worked okay after some time sync issues...

Netware 6 was premature for us and I wish I could undo the "upgrade"...

Lo ;)
