Trying to troubleshoot why a net use command will not work on a Novell 5.1 network. Workstation is Windows 95 with Client 32 and only IP protocol. Trying to execute "net use /yes M: \\server\share" and the error returned is "Error 50: The network request is not supported. -- The named server does not support the user accounts subsystem service requested. The likely cause of this error is that the server is not using user-level security or that the user accounts subsystem service has not been started."
Is it possible to utilize the net use command without having the Microsoft Client for Microsoft Networks installed? Is it necessary to have another protocol running?
Searched Technet and only found one relevant document that did not shed any light on the resolution.
Is something missing or not running on the Novell server/network? The map command works just fine. We utilize a program that creates a batch file that runs at startup to map a drive and register some dll's. No other Novell sites have encountered this error, and I don't think this should necessitate rewriting the code.
Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks!

Hi,
by using the NET USE command you can onyl map volumes and Printers (no directorys)
(You can map all objects, that you can see directly under the server_icon into the network neighborhood.)Example:
NET USE /YES M: \\MYSERVER\SYS
NET USE /YES LPT1: \\MYSERVER\PRINTER_1
You must be logged in to use the NET USE CommandWhy do'nt you take Novell's Command-line Tools. I think, it is the better solution.
MAP M:=.MYSERVER_SYS.Servercontext\PUBLIC (better) or
MAP M:=MYSERVER/SYS:PUBLIC (simple)captute L=1 Q=.Q_Printer_1.Queuecontext NA NB (better) or
Capture L=1 Q=Q_Printer1 NA NB (simple)You can get more information's with map /? and capture /?.
For additional informations mail me please.
