I have a Novell server running Netware 5.1 and must enlarge the SYS vol as quickly and easily as possible. My only two possible options without purchasing third-party software are:
1: Add new drive, partion and add free space to SYS. (I realize this leaves my SYS on two seperate disks and is risky)
2: Add an additional drive to the RAID 5 configuration and partion a virtual drive, add space to SYS.
I don't know if option 2 is possible without it destroying my existing RAID 5. Can an additional drive be added to the RAID 5 without completly rewriting the configuration?
If option 2 does not work I am forced to use option 1 and add a seperate disk and use the free space to expand SYS. What options withing Nwconfig will I need to use?
Thanks!-=GH=-

A third option would be to copy all the files that exist on the volume(s) other than SYS, blow away these volumes, add the needed space to SYS and recreate the volumes as needed. Generally speaking, take what you think you need for space on SYS and double it. And then don't use SYS for anything other than patching the OS as necessary. Yes, you should never span drives with a single volume, especially SYS.

I would suspect you are keeping stuff on sys that belongs on vol1. Just move them and redefine the drive mappings.

In order to add space to SYS after copying all data from VOL 1 to a new drive and blow away the old volume, do I need to create a new volume to span sys or does it simply need to be partitioned.
What utility do I use...NWCONFIG? Will this do everything I need it to do?
Also, a question from the second response...I do know that Pervasive DB is installed on SYS. How can I identify what is needed and what is not.
Thanks,

Dear Friend,
you are going very cract way what you have to do copy data of your other volume exp: data or any other volume and delete that volume using NWCONFIG and add free space to SYS volume. then add new HDD create new volume as same name with you delete and copy your data in the same
hope it solved your problem
bye...
