NAT configuration

Comment:

I'm having trouble setting my netware 5
server to act as a gateway to the internet
and allow connection sharing. Right now,
I have it setup to where I have two NICs
and the first has all my settings that the
ISP gives me (this card connects to the
modem). The second card has an IP
address of 10.1.10.1 and a mask of
255.255.255.0, and the gateway is the IP
address of my first NIC.
I have DHCP and DNS setup. The first
NIC (with the ISP settings) is setup with
nat acting as "static only". In the static
routing table, the private IP address is
10.1.10.1 (the second NICs IP address)
and the public IP address is the IP
address of the first NIC (with the ISP
settings on it). Also in the
"inetcfg>protocols>tcpip" I have "lan static
routing" enabled, and the default route is
the gateway address i got from my ISP.
When I startup the workstation, it gets all
of the correct settings (except I'm not quite
sure about the DNS setttings) but can't
access the internet. I also can't ping the
gateway or IP address that I get from my
ISP from any workstation, however I can
ping both of them from the server.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
steven (a.k.a. Mr. Moose)

add secondary IPAddress x.x.x.x (second public IPaddress that you will use for you client on the private network)

then:
under TCP/IP in inetcfg:
Select Network Address Translation Table.

Press Ins to open the Network Address Translation Entry window.

In the Public Address field, enter the public IP address to which a private address is mapped.

In the Private Address field, enter the IP address of the private host that you want to have accessed by public hosts using the public IP address.

Press Esc to add the entry to the NAT table.

You cant statically map the servers IP to a client on the inside. If you only have one public ipaddress then you will have to use dynamic NAT

Could I do it without getting a second
public IP address? Or by using proxy
instead nat?

I was wrong in my first post.

you go in under bindings>the NIC with the public IP bound to it>expert...>Network address translation. to make the static mapping of publicprivate ip addresses.

No if you want to use static NAT you need additional ip addresses. If you want to use dynamic you only need one.

The one public address you got is used by the NW server and can not be used by client inside.

Static NAT is all packets that are sent to is redirected to so you need another pub address.

The gateway of the second card should be set to its own IP address not that of the first, it will never be able to see the first and the ngateway should always be on the same subnet as the the card that uses it!
