Here's how to install a service pack on a NetWare server: expand the service pack and place the folder at the root of the sys volume. Service packs are not installed from clients. In other words, move the nw5sp4 folder to the root of sys: then type nwconfig at the server console prompt. Select Product Options from the main menu; then select Install a product not listed; press F3 to indicate the installation path; backspace over a:\ and type sys:\nw5sp4 and then press enter. An alternative to this is to install the service pack from a CD. Here's how to do this: burn the nw5sp4 folder onto a CD disk. Next, at your server console prompt type edit autoexec.ncf; when the file loads, page down until you see the LOAD commands listed and type in below one of them LOAD CDROM and beneath that type LOAD NWCONFIG; all the LOAD commands should be listed on separate lines, as you will see; hit escape and then enter to save the file, exit the edit utility to get back to the server prompt, then type restart server; when the server restarts, get back to your console prompt and put the CD with nw5sp4 into the CD drive in the server, the CD will mount automatically as a read-only volume; write down the name of the volume, this will be the green text you see appearing at the prompt; next, press Ctrl and Esc together to get to the screen menu and select the number for the nwconfig utility; select Product Options>Install a product not listed, press F3 for the path, backspace over anything that's there, then type the name of the volume (the CD) that you wrote down, for example, 030212_0811, followed by :\nw5sp4; so it would be 030212_0811:\nw5sp4, then hit enter. Follow the prompts to install the service pack. If the program asks you to authenticate, type in the full admin context, such as admin.corp.nyc, what ever the admin context is; leave off the tree name since that is implied in the context. Simple! I do it all the time!
