I had a problem with a public symbol error a few weeks ago.
I was trying to load the nwtape.cdm module for use with the SCSI tape drive, but I wasn't loading it correctly. I was typing 'load nwtape' at the server console and it was returning an error message similar to yours. I got over the problem like this:-
Load nwconfig from console prompt Choose Driver Options from the menu Configure Disk and Storage Device Drivers Select Additional Driver Choose NWTAPE.CDM.

What are you trying to load. The PUBLIC SYMBOLS ERRORS signify that the server is missing some files or has some old files. Update to the latest support pack.

Holly patch man ! have you loaded the last patchs. Also what nlm did you load just before this error (ie. can you make the error happen, or does it happen everytime you boot even with a clean startnet.ncf and autoexec.ncf). What happens when you load the server.exe with a "-na" switch (no autoexec.ncf) ?
