Comment: i am currently in the process of installing novell 4.11 on a machine with 128 mb of ram, and for some reason after it asks for the language, it exits the install program and goes to a black screen where the cursor sits in the upper left hand corner and just flashes. i've let it sit for awhile, but there is no activity from the cd-rom, and it won't let me type anything on the scree. there is no prompt of any sort, just the cursor. does anyone know what is going on with it and possibly what i can do to fix this?

Reply: (edit)Try installing any other OS to rule out any hardware issues. If another OS works on that pc, try installing 4.11 on another pc to rule out software/media issues.

Reply: (edit)i installed 98 on the machine and that ran fine. i was told something about himem.sys when installing 4.11 i don't know if this is an issue or not. my next step will be to swap hard drives and install using a different system.
this is all just for my own home experimentation using netware so i can learn more about it and get some hands on experience.

Reply: (edit)Since you brought it up.... The config.sys should not contain any commands for himem.sys, emm386.exe etc, when installing or running Netware. Netware uses its own memory management, and himem allocates memory in a way that Netware can't use. This _may_ explain the problems you're seeing.
