installation can't find ram

I have tryed to install 5.0 on a AMD 450 box w/512 megs of RAM & time after time i get a message that says that i don't have enough RAM.. driving me NUTS Thanks...
I'm having the same problem. The PC boots and the memory test confirms the 512MB of RAM. I'm using my original DOS 6.22(not from any version of WIN). I have CONFIG.SYS loading everything including the CDROM into HIMEM. The install gets all the way to the creation of the SYS volume and then I get this message "...requires 95MB of RAM, only 62MB is available...". I continue anyway. The installation gets allll the way to the final FILE COPY point (last step). At this point, I get something like "IO error...unable to open RCONJ.ZIP...PERL5.ZIP...." I reformatted/reloaded everything. I tried using EMM386 with and without Extended memory, but the installation doesn't even get to the Novell splash screen. It stops while still in DOS and the message says "..memory is already in a protected mode...remove the memory manager.."

Don't use himem!
Any form of memory management software including emm386.exe, himem.sys or Win95 System files will automatically try to allocate memory to themselves therefore rendering it unavailable to Netware.
