infinite loop after installing SP

Running v5.1 service pack 3 (I know, I know) and then installed sp5 and it caused an infinite loop to occur? The network guru that I work with done it and now when we try to boot the server it loads the sys volume but when it tries to load the data volume the loop occurs. I'm new to Novell, normally I deal with MS and the AS/400. Thanks
