Subject: How to migrate NDS in Netware 5.1
OS: Netware 5.1
CPU/Ram: Zeon 3 Ghz
Model/Manufacturer: DELL 2850
Comment:
Hi Folks,

We have Novell Netware 5.1 installed in DELL 2850 server. This is a live server. We wanted to create backup server for this Novell server. The purpose is we need to have a standby server if the live server fails.

For this we have installed a Novell 5.1 Server in an identical server.

Now we need to bring up the new novell server without disturbing the live server.

What is the procedure for migrating live server to a new server.

Thanks in Advance

Asai

i would first try the Novell migration wizard:

http://www.novell.com/documentation...

it's renowned as being less than perfect, but if it works, it saves you a lot of hassles.

Use server consolidation and migration tool to copy the data from one server to other.

Migration can't serve as an option if you want to keep the earlier server, because it will replace the earlier server with newer one. Consolidation can be used if you want to copy data, users, trustees and printer agents but not the eDirectory.
For taking eDirectory backup you can use iManager->roles and tasks->edirectory maintanance->backup.
i will try to search a tool(like backup em tool for edirectory 8.7) which supports default edirectory with Netware5.1 for taking edirectory backup and will update with the same.
