So, I went to log into Groupwise this morning and I got "an error ocurred while trying to access the windows system registry". Then, I get an error saying "Groupwose is not properly installed"
I can still send and read mail, but I have to type everything out. It's very strange.
Any thoughts?

There is one of two fixes.
1. Go to Start\Settings\Control Panel. See if you have an icon named Mail\Fax or just Mail. If you do double click on the icon and see if the Novell GroupWise Address Books are listed in the Services Window. If not click on the "Add" button and see if they come up in a list to be selected. The Books for GroupWise that should be listed are:
a. Novell GroupWise Address Book
b. GroupWise Personal Address Book
c. Novell Message Store
d. Frequent ContactsIf they are there in the "Add" section, just select them to be added. Then do a Save or Apply. I'm trying to do this from memory.
2. You will need to reinstall the client if # 1 does not work. As you probably know it only takes about 1 minute to reload the GW Client.
If you do a reinstall of the GW Client you should do a thorough cleaning of the current GW Client. "Add\Remove Programs" does not do a thorough cleaning, and could cause problems with the new GW Client install. There is a program that cleans the GW Client off of the PC. It is called GWCA55US.exe, and it scrubs the registry clean of the GW client along with the GW Client folder. If you can't find the cleaning file just send me an e-mail and I will send it to you (it's only 280K).
There is one other problem that I have seen with re-installing the GW Client. It deals with Windows Messaging. If the Windows Messaging problem is going to occur it will be when you are installing the GW Client. It will be when it is trying to register the GW "dll" files. If this occurs you will need to install Windows Messaging then install the GW CLient. The order of installing the GW Client that works for me (and I have done it a hundred times) when it erorrs out doing a re-install is:
a. Do a cleaning of the old GW Client
using the GWCA55US.exe program
b. Install Windows Messaging
c. Re-install GW ClientIt sounds like a lot, but it only takes 5 minutes tops to do all three steps. If not you could spend an hour looking for the problem and chasing your tail. And still not find out what the problem is.

Side Note: Before you start reinstalling anything. Open the Address Book up and click on "File" if you can. If you can get into the Address Book and click on "File" see if the "Open Book" is greyed out or it is selectable (it would be black instead of grey). I have seen where somebody went into someone others GW Client and had selected "Close Book" for all the Address books. They were all there just CLOSED. It was a trick he was playing on the other guy. just a last minute thought.

Okay, I went through both and I still have the same issue. And, when I go into NWAdmin, the option to make any changes to a usuer's groupwise account is greyed out. I can view, but nothing is clickable.
The part that really gets me is the 'windows registry' part of the error. Is there anything I should be looking for using regedit?
Thanks again.
Michael

Well I guess since I do not know how you have your NWAdmin setup I need to ask a few questions.
1. Does the NWAdmin you are using have the GroupWise snap-in applied?
2. Is each GroupWise account associated with a Netware NDS User object?
3. And if you are using the snap-in for GroupWise what happens when you view the
information from the GroupWise view?4. If the GroupWise account is associated with a Netware NDS User object do you get any error(s) when trying to open up the NDS User object from the NDS side of NWAdmin?
The only time that I have seen where all information is greyed out on a GroupWise
account is when something was done to the GroupWise account, and for some reason the
replication process had not completed for the edit or whatever action was taken on a GroupWise object (account). If this is the case then you would not be able to make any changes to the GroupWise account (all information would be greyed out) until the replication process is done. Your problem could be on the NDS side of things. Netware is the one that does the replication process for any changes done to a GroupWise object (account). You might want to run DSRepair to see if their is any problems. If you get errors after running DSRepair you need to run it again until there is no errors. You can check on any pending operations (if you have the GroupWise snap-in loaded) with GroupWise objects by right clicking on your Primary Domain object, in the the GroupWise View side of NWAdmin, and then selecting from the drop down menu System Operations\Pending Operations. A window will appear, and if there is anything listed in there it means that whatever operation or edit that was performed on this account it has not been processed.
I would not know how else to advise you with out knowing this information. The bad thing is that I know I could tell you what the problem is if I could have 5 minutes in front of a WS running NWAdmin. If I can be of any further help please let me know.
