I need to find the location of a pc on our network. If i knew the user that is currently logged in, it would be helpful. The info that i already have is as follows: Ip Address, Workstation name, and Mac address. Nbtstat -A does not give me any info.It returns an Unknown Host error. I can ping the ip address. The workstation can not be located in NDS(Novell 6). I was able to get the Workstation name from its DNS entry. I have a w2k DNS server.Any info will be greatly appreciated.

If you have the Workstation name from DNS that will help if all your workstations are unique names. The IP can change if on DHCP though so you may have to work quick. If you got the MAC address from DNS now you have a trace to the machine(but not the user for sure). Depending on your environment, you may be able to isolate the segment, then scan for users while logged in to NDS with ODBC search on NDS or if you think you know the IP addy there is a cool scanner called "angryIP" scanner that can scan the segment and get you Netbios info on the system or even the whole segment. There are a HOST of other ways to track an IP. Let me know more about it via e-mail and I may be able to give a couple tips. I have done this for security porposes at a State Agency before.
