Any recommendations for an easy to use software that runs from the desktop (not the server)that will locate Novell users and list the MAC,IP address, and CPU name or vice versa? My network admin is buried in daily operations and said I could really use something like this, only if it didn't have to run from our servers. This would just be for user locating and tying them to a specific location.
I have tried a few shareware programs, with some problems. Most of our pcs, don't have the Microsoft client installed, we just have the Novell client installed. And that has been the main stumbling block in allowing some of the freeware programs to successfully gather info from our network workstations.
Just give my some software names and I will do the footwork for details on the software.
Thanks a bunch to all who reply to these forums.

You might find a tool here, hip-shot:

You simply just dont mix the clients...if possible!

We use Zenworks to distribute apps. to the workstations thru Zenworks Application Launcher. I didn't know there was a way to manage workstations with Zenworks? Do you mean that you can locate a PC by username, IP, MAC, or CPU name?
Cheers,
MATT

Use the Novell ODBC database snapin with excel. It can glean TONS of info out of eDirectory, and if you use Zenworks (which is the best way to manage things) it can get even more info out for you. Zenworks is the berries for any kind of Desktop management though. There is a cool tool called Zenwsbrowser that makes things easier and faster then ConsoleOne.
