excel & word freeze all the time

we are running client 32 - novell 3.12 in our labs at school. Excel and Word 97 freeze all the time. We also get a message that says "no printers are installed" and can't print anything. Once we power off and on - everything comes back fine. What's up? ANy help would be greatly appreciated!

Is the server on a UPS? I had similar flaky problems with a 3.12 server- it was not on a UPS, I got one and the problems stopped.

I had a similar problem with excel and disabling the antivirus program solved my problem.

I was the administrator for a company that had the same problem with word/excel.
The problem was to do with our anti virus program. We were using Sophos. It seemed to be an intermittent problem. Unfortunatley I left the company before we had worked out a soloution.
Try disabling the virus program. If that works,and you are using Sophos, it may be worth checking their home page or purchasing another (different) anti-virus package.
We are using dr solomons at my new work place and so far I haven't encountered any problems with ms office.

When printing? If so turn off spooling print direct. works for me.
