Our network runs Netware 3.12. Our Windows 98 workstations all have Excel 2000 installed on them. We are getting frequent file corruptions, with the message 'unable to read file'. Some users log on via Microsoft's Client for Netware, some with Novell client 3.32. Any ideas?

try uploading excel again, it mite have been a problem with the installation of the program! we have netware on our server and workstations here, and most of them have excel, but we do not get this problem. G

Thanks Graeme - we've tried that, no joy. Have also disabled all macros, installed the service packs, run vrepair - all to no avail.

I had the same problem with Excel 97 SP2 and Netware 4.2 Novell has some problems with it's clientsoftware and Win98. Try as many different versions as you can. Eg. maybe it works with the old client release 2.75. Try to disable some performance options in the client settings. Install the newest service pack for Netware. Try Excel without service pack. Check out, if the data transfer works fine. Eg. copy a very large compressed file to a workstation and then back to the server and try to decompress it. If it's corrupted, you can't. If there's a problem with transfer, replace the network cards on the segment. philipp

Have you by some chance met your directory entry limit? If you have you should be getting feed back from the system as to this problem. Just a thought. Underdog
