The newest version of ghost haas the ability to do that if I'm not mistaken. The eval version may even have that feature enabled.
Or, just get a second HD, and reinstall the OS and copy the data over using NTFS-DOS.

Check out Partation Magic 5. This great for converting over and it will also convert NTFS back when you want to get rid of it!
Richard-

just go to a dos prompt, and type
convert.exe /fs:ntfs
from the drive you want to convert (i.e. C:\)
then you will need to reboot, and upon reboot your drive will be converted.

Response # 4 has it. NOW, can anyone tell me how to take that newly converted NTFS drive, and reset the default permissions for WIN2000 or NT4.0? I'd be MUCH obliged. Thanks, Patrick

Does anyone know how to convert the root partiton to NTFS when all you have on the machine is NT4W.

#4, I get an error saying that it is a raw device and that it cannot convert it. Is there somthing I am doing wrong?

Convert doesn't work because it says that there is not enough memory left on the disk. The disk is 60GB and around 60% full. Does anyone know how much space I need to convert Fat32 in NTFS

Using Windows 2000?
Here's an article from Microsoft support site:SYMPTOMS
If you install Windows 2000 from a CD-ROM to a 20-gigabyte (GB) hard disk that uses the FAT32 file system, the installation succeeds. However, when you attempt to convert the file system to the NTFS file system by using the convert c: /fs:ntfs command, the conversion may not succeed. You may receive the following error message, even though the hard disk has more than 18 GB of free space:Conversion failed, not enough disk space on drive

I am getting the same error than Ron Light...
The type of the system files is RAW.
CONVERT is not avalaible for the RAW devices.Anyone can help ?
PS: its not my c:, its d: (the 16gb storage hdd) that i want to convert to ntfs.

any advise? I've got a w2000 on my E partition, fat32 and 98se on C. I'd like to convert the E to NTFS but how should I do it? obviously it must be done under 98 but I don't have any program for that.

If you haven't already found it, you convert a FAT or FAT32 drive to NTFS under NT or 2000 by typing "convert c: /fs:ntfs /v" at a command prompt.
See the Windows help for more info.
Windows 98 will NOT be able to see this drive after you change it to NTFS.

I've got the same RAW issue. My drive worked fine yersterday, but when I woke up, WIN2K says it's not formatted, and it reads RAW in command line. I CAN see the directories on the drive in the Recovery Console, but cannot copy any files or change anything from it. Any help?

I have done a bit of research and found that you cannot convert FAT32 to NTFS and retain your data. There is a utility that will allow NTFS to reconize FAT32. You can then migrate the data to a NTFS partition. The utility can be found at http://www.winternals.com/trynow/demos.shtml

#4, Jon, I can't thank you enough :) Win2k was hell to install on triple boot system and I couldn't convert one of my partitions to ntfs cos it had the boot.ini on it, it kept refusing, but now it's converting !!! =)
Thanks

Is there any tool to convert NTFS to FAT32 without lost of data or any problems?
Or I should not play with it and do it with backup first and than format?
