Hi, im not sure if this is in the right topic but i think it has to do with Novell client...

We are an office of 30 people but are part of much larger network that have over a

1000 users to the network. Our office use Windows 2000 Operating System on our

machines. We are part of a network which are Windows based servers. Situated in

our office and our office only are three servers which are Novell, and we all use

Novell Client SP3. And the novell equipment is only used by us.

There are no problems with this set up until we try and connect to the internet or

local intranet websites. Internet Explorer cannot find the page, and yet it can find it

maybe an hour later then later on in the day it cannot find it again. This problem

occurs all day long and is only happening with our office... which leads me to believe

it has something to do wih Novell

Has anyone seen this problem before and can help?

I know i have been quite vague with my question but if any more details are needed

by you to help find the problem i am happy to give more details!

Thanks
Deeno

I think it depends on how you try to connect to the intranet website.

I guess, if you try to connect to your intranet servers website by using the servers ip address, it will work.
E.g.:
Intranet Server IP: 192.168.1.1

So in internet explorer try:
http://192.168.1.1/index.html
(or whatever your starting website is)

If this is working, and I think it will, check, what happens with your domain name of that server.

Let's say the domain name is "someserver.com".
If there is no internet connection, the client tries to resolve the name someserver.com and, because no name server from the internet is available, it tries and tries. After a while, the intranet server says, here I am, and it works.
But when you are connected through the internet, the outside name servers will look for that domain name, and, if there is bad luck, the domain exists in the world wide web, but it's not yours.
In this case, if there is running a web server too, you'll get a wrong page or if no web server is running there, you'll get an error page.

Workarround:
If you have an internal name server, create an entry for your intranet server (someserver.com) with it's ip address.
If no internal name server is available, you can create an entry for someserver.com in each machines hosts file.

I hope that helps !!!

Good luck.

Ah, by the way.
You can try to figure out on what's going on,
when you open a DOS box and try the following command:
tracert someserver.com

This will show you, where your machine is trying to find your server, internal or external.
