Sorry if this is a repost my myself, I didn't think the first got sent.
I'm completely new to Novell (v3.12) but would like to see if I can get a Netware server running alongside the NT4 system. Unfortunately I can't seem to mount the SYS volume, and I get the following message the first time I try;
"Mirror copies of the volume directory don't match."
and then any other attempt prior to restarting says;
"Invalid Volume Header / Root Directory Entry."
Can anyone tell me what I need to do?
Mr H

Run Vrepair and take the option to write the changes to disk. Netware 2.12 is a very old version, can you upgrade to 4 or 5?
Why do you need this server? Can't the NT server do the job?
Lawrence

Thanks, I'll be trying that next.
It's really just a test for me - to see if I can get the netware server going properly. I have no experience with netware (other than as end user) but thought it might be good experience. The software is all there, etc, so I thought i'd give it a go.
Rest assured, I'll need all the help I can get...

You would need to run VRepair until all the errors are gone. But that seems like it would take a while!!
You're better off starting from scratch if you've got the software (preferably with a newer version of Netware).

The suggestion from others about VREPAIR is right on target. You might want to get your hands wet with Ver. 3.11/3.12 they're much more towards growing with the individual, then steadily move up to versions 4 and then 5. There's also much more documentation and info on version 3.

I'm using 3.12 simply because it's the software that has already been purchased and used several years ago. Now we are using NT and I was curious about Novell. At the moment, I have the partitions set, not mirrored (it was only allowing mirrored partitions previously), and I can successfully mount SYS. I've loaded the IDE drivers, KTC40X driver for the Kingston NIC. Is there anything else I need to do?
I have a working workstation/client that I can try that I have saved from the old network.

(Subject change imminent...)

Get a better version by checking with other
admins who may have a two or three user demo
of 4.11 or 5 you can try instead of using
3.12. That software is a nightmare for a new
user. 5 is a great learner's startup and it
will run on a lesser machine than is claimed.

MisterH,
I am getting the same error that you saw. What have you done differently to make mounting the SYS volume successful? I have tried VREPAIR; it found 192 directory errors, but I still can not mount the SYS volume.BBATTS
