My nephews were trying to access my laptop and bombarded it with incorrect passwords, I eventually logged them in as "Guest".
Now when windows starts it does not go to the login screen anymore instead a message is displayed. It says there is a netware error and that i should see the event log [which i can't find!]. Furthermore, it asks if i want to login in to windows anyway, when i click yes i login as guest. If i click no the message remains there.
What should i do i am not prompted anywhere to enter my username, now i can't access my files and have limited rights. I am using Netware Server 6 ,Novell Client 4.82.

Hi,
As for the Novell part, this is what I would do if I were you:
1. Keep the nephews away from the computer.
2. Hit the function-8 key <F8> on boot and select "Safe Mode"
3. Go to the control panel and go into network.
4. Remove any and all Netware connectivity.
5. Reboot and reinstall the client.Anything else: I have a strong feeling, based on what you have described, the problem exists in a MS autologin feature. It is possible and never surprising the security of MS has been compromised and the administrator or owner account of the PC has been neutralized or is currently ignored. If this is the case, I would encourage you to look for a solution, perhaps in the Windows XP forum. First take Netware out of the loop to be sure.
HTH,

I have tried that already, but the problem doesn't go away because in safe mode it still logs in as a guest and i cannot change any properties as a result.
Is there a program that i can install that enables me to switch users after logging in?
Thanx

Hi,

I think the Windows XP forum might be able to help.

Homa I think you have made this more complicated than need be.
And I would not remove the present netware client.
This unit sounds like a laptop. After all your nephews wouldn't be coming to work with you would they?
It also sounds like you are NOT physically connected to your Novell Network. If you were you would get the NW client screen not the default windows logon.
Do you know the administator password? Have you tried typing in 'administrator' where 'guest' is and enter the password?
Your nephews password attempts could disable your account that you normally logon with IF the local policy says to. Normally the guest account is disabled by default.
So it comes down to the administrator account and password. A trick to get to the screen for administrator if you are using the Welcome to Windows screen.
Do a control-alt-delete. Wait. A logon box will appear. Put in administator for user and the admin password. Now you can get in.But before you screw up your work computer why not talk to the folks who set it up.
It sounds like the only issue is your confusion on logging in and that this unit is not connected to the netware network.
