hi,

I inherited a PC which was formerly networked and used the novell client login. The PC is just for home use but since I upgraded the O/S from Win98 to Win2kNT I'm prompted for one of the old passwords (which I don't have) and cn't therefore login. I can't access the BIOS menu either as there is a 6 figure key which I don't have. Does anyone know whether I can get round these problems or is the only way to install a new HD?? Cheers if anyone can help.

Hi Andy:

It doesn't seem to be a problem with Novell Client. If this is the problem you could just cancell when you are prompted for login and then uninstall the client via UNC32. The problem you have seem to be a BIOS one. Try to uninstal Win2kNT. If you dont have any access, try to read your HD connecting it as secondary Master in another machine (If your FAT is no NTSC and if you want to recover your information) If the information (Data) is not important on the disk, just format it.

Reset the Bios, open the box and look for the CMOS reset button or jumper.

If you can't find the CMOS jumper and know which kind of MB you have, just go to the website for that MB manufacturer, i.e. www.asus-tech.com etc...and look for the MB manual. If it is a major brand computer like IBM or HP you can go to their website and d/l the docs there. If you don't know the make of the motherboard just lookf for a jumper (might need a magnifying glass and a flashlight) that has CMOS or J8 printer on the board next to it. It's a 3 pin connection usually, just take the jumper of the 2 pins it covers then put it on the other 2 pins and unplug the power cable. Put it back on the other 2 pins and you should be able to access BIOS.
