I loaded the Novell client for windows on a user's XP laptop and after the novell login, it asks for a local pw. He never needed this before and does not know it. How can I remove or bypass Novell?
Thanks

The user needs an account on the server in order to login. If you haven't established an account, you will need to do it.
If the server requires passwords (I certainly hope so), then the first time your user logs in (with the user name you assigned), it will prompt the user to change their password to something new. This is where the password gets established.

Ok, I think I know whats going on here and I will try to explain it the best I can.
Depending on how XP was setup, it may or may not require a user name and password to get on. In this case it seems to have been setup to not require this.
When you installed the Novell Client in changed the networking setting and now the machine basicaly has two logins. A Network login and a local login. You can thank Microsoft for this.
By default the Admin password on the XP Laptop should be Administrator with no password. If it has not been changed.
If you are not connected to the network click the workstation only button on the novell client and try the Administrator login with no password. If it lets you in I would go in and setup a local user that has the same name and password as the novell account.
The next time you go to login to the network you should get a novell login, then a local user login. Input the newly created local user, check the syncronize my password with the novell account button on the bottom left and login. From this point on you should only get one login.
