Can someone assist please.
I have a Compaq server designed to run Novell Netware 4 and Above. I managed to install Netware3.1 which is running fine BUT the tape drive is not saving data. Beside upgrading is there any other way i can go around the problem. ( Management is not prepared to ugrade).
The specifications of the server are as follows.
Intel Pentium 111 Xeon 1GHz processor
512MB Total sdram 133MHz
Smart array 5304/128 Controller (Raid)
20/40 GB Dat

I need more details:
What backup software are you running?
How did you determine that the tape is NOT saving data?
Does the backup process seem to run at all?
Does your backup software see the tape drive properly?
Can you take a tape that you know has data on it and see the data from the backup software?
Are you sure that the write tab has not be set or removed from the tape that you are attempting to use?

Thanks for your reply.
I am running Sbackup for Novell 3.12 ( the generic that comes with Novell)
It actually goes through all B/up steps
but when actual b/up starts.Yes, the software sees the Tape but on trying to back up it gives the following error message.
Cache Memory Allocator out of available Memory when trying to load

sounds like you're out of memory...can you load anything else on the server? like monitor, etc? Usually a "cache allocator out of avail mem" error is because the cach memory allocator has no available memory to give to the application....if downing the server and bringing back up fixes the problem, you have an NLM running that is causing a memory leak....try updating to the latest service pack, and getting the latest sbackup NLM from Novell's site....
