Is it possible to use the ernergysaving features like screensaver, harddisk standby etc, or a timeframe based on X minutes of inactivity, to logout a user automatically? We use NT4 workstations on HP Vectra and Novell 4.11.

For safteyresons we need to make sure that our staff logout when they leave, but in the real world they often forget.

Hi

This may be of some use to you.

You can do this with the "LOGIN TIME RESTRICTIONS" tab in NWADMIN. Just go to the USER | DETAILS | LOGIN TIME RESTRICTIONS. To restrict login times, choose one or more cells in the time grid. You can drag to choose multiple cells. If the user is logged in and reaches a restricted time, the system issues a five-minute warning. If the user is still logged in after five minutes, he or she is logged out and loses any unsaved work

Hi Brian,

Thank you for your answer but I should have
been more specific. I do use this feature i
Nwadmin. If anyone is logged in and Netware
close down the session, the NT workstation
still thinks that all programs and files are
open and the machine will try to reconnect
until morning hours when it's OK to connect.
This process takes quit a lot of capacity in
the network. I don't know why. So what I
would like to do is to use the power down
feature on the workstation to do a logout at
the same time. The power down feature is not
really terminating the power is't just taking
it down to lower level with the user still
logged in.

If you use ZenWorks then there is a simple solution.
Use a scheduled App that closes down the workstations with the screensaver as the triggering event. (There are a variety of applications that will close down a workstation)

Check out the windows 2000 resource kit that is available for download from microsoft.

there is a logout utility, that you can run as a screen saver. it works with nt workstations.
