Currently, we're having problems performing a restore from tape using Arcserve 7.0 running in a Netware 5.1 environment.
As a test, I request a restore for a directory that has been backed up on a tape, other then the first tape of the backup sequence.
However, everytime I request a restore of a specific directory that was backed up on Tape#2, or beyond, the Arcserve database only searches Sequence 1, in other words, it attempts to restore the directory from where it thinks the directory should be on tape #1. ArcServe never attempts to read past the first tape.We have contacted CA Support to report this problem. At their recommendation,we applied the latest patches to the NWAgent, ArcServe Server, & Workstation Manager. However, after requesting a restore of a directory on Tape #2, the ArcServe database still attempts the restore from Tape(Sequence) #1.
Has anyone encountered similar issues? Any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks

This just sounds like a continuation of my horor story with CA. When ArcServe 7.x came out and we tried to upgrade from ArcServe 6.6 we were in contact with CA for over 30 days trying to get the upgrade completed. And this is NOT stretching the time frame by any means. After over a month of support calls, installing this patch, installing that patch, sending log and configuration files to CA's Tech Support, CA not being able to duplicate the error(s), having loooong talks with their engineer's, being on the phone for literally hours @ a time. I finally fell back to ArcServe 6.6 and ssaid the h*** with it. I had gone for over a month without a backup and I don't mind telling you I was getting nervous. My job could have been on the line if a major problem occured with the Servers and I told the powers to be that I had to go back over 30 days to get a good restore. I even gave them the benifit of the doubt thinking it could be a Tape Changer. Not so, we run 4 HP DLT Tape Changers. And the odds on all 4 Tape Changers being bad is pretty slim to none.
If I had a word of advice for you I would say "RUN FORREST RUN"!! Get hooked up with some good backup software like Veritas.
I am not trashing ArcServe, it was one heck of a product when Cheyenne owned it. I had used it for well over 15 years with nothing but the highest praise for it. But ever since CA has owned it the software has gone to h*** in a hand basket. Do yourself a favor and cut your loses, it is not a matter of if it will fail you when you need it, it is just a matter of when will it fail you.
