We are experiencing real problems with our Arcserve 7 system backuing up Netware 5.1 box's. The fault is the backup server intermittently fails to connect to the remote servers giving a "cannot login to tsa" message. There seems to be no structure to the fault, works ok one minute, then breaks the next. Anyone else seen this ?

Cheers

Pete

When you got the error it should also have an error number with it, something like "EXXXX" where the X's are numeric. Unless they have stabalized ver. 7.x it will cause problems. I was over three weeks upgrading from ver. 6.6 to ver 7.x with CA supports help. We never got it upgraded. We backed up and reinstalled ver. 6.6 and use it quite sucessfully on 54 Netware 5.1 boxes. If you let me know what the error code is I might be able to help.

We tried running ver7 on our 5.1 boxes too and had several problems. We ended up upgrading our 2 Novell backup servers to Novell 6. Then loaded ARCserve 7. This solved almost all the problems and the ones we did have, were easy fixes. We had to tweak the manager a bit, plus load the latest patches/upgrades on the 2000 workstation ARCserve manager is running on. We have been running AS7 now for three weeks with no problems. (knock on wood) It is backing up both Novell 5.1 and 6 boxes.
Anyway, this is how we solved our issues, if you can upgrade to Novell 6, that is what I suggest.

try this

-downloaded tsa5up9: I already tried with version 8, which did not work
- deleted in the tree: SMS SMDR group and the backup job queue and sms rpc
- reconfigured sms on both servers
- recreated qman again
- modified the SET MAXIMUM PHYSICAL RECEIVE PACKET SIZE in startup.ncf from 2400 to 9600( of which I am not sure that it will solve, but at least everything is running now)

after that restarted arcserve and tested: backup running fine
