I'm using Arcserve 7 NW Enterprise on one 5.1 Server and at one point I could use it to backup another 5.1 server. It will still backup local volumes but gets slow transfer rate (1K/min) backing up the remote 5.1 server now.
I have already reinstalled Arcserve and rebuilt the SMS components of both servers but still doesn't work.
It will work saving files OK (with short filenames only) if I don't load tsands and tsa500 on the remote 5.1 server
**HELP** I'm temporarily using my NT Server backup to save my Netware Files (without rights)

We run Arcserve 7 Enterprise on One 5.1 server to back up parts of two other servers.
Ensure that you have a healthy network - e.g. ensure slp and DA s are correct etc.
=========================================
FWIW -
We have had Arcserve in place now for 3 months. It is the most unreliable, difficult to administer, error-prone backup software I have ever encountered. It is...
Hellishly expensive ("Enterprise" does not even come with Agents for the system it is bought for - you have to pay extra, over an above an already extortionate price)
Very very very slow admin software interface.
The database has had internal errors several times. It had to be completely re-installed twice.
The tape engine has stopped for no apparent reason.
Daily backup scheduled jobs have stopped after one successful backup and had to be applied manually therafter, every time.
The technical assistance has been negligible.
It was quite difficult to actually buy in the first place. Nobody selling it seemed to know how it was licenced and we were supplied with inappropriate versions to begin with.

The latest is that I installed the tape drive and Arcserve 7 on the Server that is having the problem backing up. I have the same slow performance running Arcserve 7 locally on this server as I had when I was backing it up remotely.
I don't want to apply any Novell patches yet as this backup did work properly at one time.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled SMS so many times I can do it in my sleep.
There appears to be no difference in the SMS components in the DS tree as compared to the components on which Arcserve still works.
